Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Montana 2025
LST ISDEAA Planning Project
The Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians is centered in the Great Falls area, with tribal members throughout Montana and across the United States. This grant will support the Tribe to complete the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (ISDEAA) planning phase and prepare negotiation documents to assume responsibility and funding for providing healthcare services from the Indian Health Service (IHS). This will be done by recruiting and hiring a dedicated project manager, traveling to an existing self-governance site or program, developing recommendations for Tribal Council consideration, developing a draft compact and funding agreement, and carrying out negotiations with the Indian Health Service (IHS). Funds will be used for staff and consultant time and travel associated with the project. Confirmed partners for this project include the Little Shell Tribe negotiation team, Negotiations and ISDEAA Planning Team Lead Terra Branson-Thomas, Finance Director Kevin McCaughey, and Little Shell Attorney General Josh Clause.
